    The Bridge
    An album by TheTelephpones (UK)
    2007-2008

Well, what can we say about this little album and about those recordings?
The Bridge was an album that came about after two years writing and gigging, from the birth of The Telephones as an acoustic duo, through to the formation of a band, then being the first band to record in a brand new studio (the recording equipment was still being part-installed as the recording began, the desk was unwrapped and the microphones un-boxed!) ,
The Bridge was a learning curve, it was an album of songs written on acoustic guitars then reconstructed as the sound of a 60’s band with 00’s production.
The Bridge is loosely a mini concept album, (the original version being trimmed down from 10 songs to 8 ) which is based on ‘the bridge between youth and young adulthood’, with all the pitfalls that life can throw your way along the road.
There are songs that reflect on the ‘thread’ or narrow margin and subtle choices that keeps us separated from becoming homeless, or.. maybe not as the case may be. It was born of sympathy for people we saw and perhaps some people we knew.
There are some destitute characters around the town and in the pubs and bars, there are the ‘lads on the pavement’, there is ‘Sabina..’ there is all of us (the band) in there, in the mistakes we made and the lives we had.
There is a lot more we could say, but mostly we’d like you to hear the songs.
For me, personally it was a learning curve, and there are many things that I would do differently now, perhaps mostly with the mixing and some other aspects of the production.
Within a year, we’d be back to the studio again, with a different line up, having been out and about gigging for 9 months, and we sounded totally different (those recordings, from 2009 will be released on another album ‘Pennie Smith in Exile’ very soon!).
For people wanting the full journey – this is a great little introduction to where it all began.
